Telemecanique capacitive proximity sensors from Schneider Electric Sensor Competency Center (SCC), Dayton, OH, sense nonmetal objects or level of fluids and granular material through another object or container. Sensing range is 2 mm to 15 mm. You can adjust the sensors to eliminate the presence of the container object, allowing them to sense through a bulk material or liquid level. Operating distance is related to the dielectric constant of the object material and the operating environment; the higher the dielectric constant, the easier the detection. Applications include level sensing for solids or liquids in food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and packaging industries.
